There are three types of conditions.
They are:
1. POSSIBLE CONDITIONS
2. PROBABLE CONDITIONS
3. IMPOSSIBLE CONDITIONS
———————————————————————————————————————————————
POSSIBLE CONDITIONS
The first type expresses that something will happen if a certain condition is fulfilled. The structural pattern is given below.
IF S + V1, S + WILL + V5
Example:
If you come, I will give the book.
Look at the picture given below and read the sentence in the speech bubble. Now, think about the possible condition.
PROBABLE CONDITIONS
The second type expresses the probable result of a certain condition that we imagine or suppose. The sentence pattern is given below.
IF S + V2, S + WOULD + V5
Example:
If you came, I would give the book.
Look at the picture given below, read the sentence in the speech bubble and think about the probable condition.
IMPOSSIBLE CONDITIONS
The third type expresses impossible conditions. We go back in time and imagine about things that didn’t really happened. They have become impossible because we know that the necessary conditions were not fulfilled within the proper time. The sentence pattern is given below.
IF S + HAD + V3, S + WOULD + HAVE + V3
Example:
If you had come, I would have given the book.
Look at the picture given below and read the sentence in the speech bubble. Then go back to the second picture just above and finally go to the first picture. Then only, you will be able to understand the three conditions clearly.
IMPOSSIBLE CONDITIONS
